今回はこちらの問題を例にしてすすめていきます。
Direct Questionsエッセーは、問題のように2つのクエスチョンがありそれぞれに対して答えていくタイプの問題になります。
他のエッセータイプであるCause&Solutionタイプとかなり似ていますが、Direct Questionsエッセーでは、問われる問題が、原因、解決策に限らず、幅広く問われるという違いがあります。
Some people believe success is often measured by wealth and material belongings.（主張）
Do you think wealth is the best indicator of success?（問題1）
What other things make people successful ?（問題2）
このように3つに文章が分かれています。
主張があり、問題1、問題2という構成で書かれている場合、Direct Questionsと呼ばれる問題パターンになります。
まずは、問題文を分解してタイプを判断する作業を必ずしましょう。
Direct Questionsエッセーのパラグラフ構成
Direct Questionsの問題ではこのようなパラグラフ構成となります。
- Introduction：問題文の言い換え＋自分の意見
- Body1：一つ目の質問について
- Body2：二つ目の質問について
- Conclusion：自分の意見（イントロよりも具体的に）
Bodyは場合によっては3つにしてしまっても大丈夫です。
Cause&Solutionエッセーの時間配分
時間配分は人によりますが、42分をオススメします。

Direct Questionsエッセーのアウトライン
次にアウトラインを考えます。
問題文を理解したら、必ずアウトラインを考える時間を取りましょう。
人によって目安の時間は違いますが、練習の段階ではまずは時間がかかってしまっても構わないので、必ず納得いくアウトラインを考えてから書き始める癖をつけましょう。
では実際にアウトラインを考えていきます。
まずは、問題文の理解です。
（何人かの人々は、成功は富や所有物によって定義されると考えている。）
（あなたは、富が成功にとっての一番の指標だと考えますか？）
（他にどんなものが人々を成功させますか？）
（あなたは、富が成功にとっての一番の指標だと考えますか？）
なぜなら、高い収入があるビジネスマンの多くが自分の生活に満足できていないから。
次に２つ目の質問です。
（他にどんなものが人々を成功させますか？）
単にお金があるだけの人よりも、家族友人といい時間を過ごせている人の方が幸福を感じやすいから。
今回は抽象的でかなり考えにくい問題だと思いますが、このように簡潔な意見を書くことを意識しましょう。
Direct QuestionsエッセーのIntroduction
次に具体的にIntroductioの書き方を説明します。
イントロは「問題文の言い換え＋自分の意見」という構成でしたよね。
問題文の言い換え
基本的にライティングはどのタイプでも問題文の言い換えからのスタートに固定するといいでしょう。

Some believe that money and material possessions arguably lead to increased success.
言い換え
- material belongings → material possessions
自分の意見
ここではまず、1つ目の質問である
Do you think wealth is the best indicator of success?（問題1）
に対しての意見を簡単にまとめて↓
wealth is one of the indicators that decides one’s success
2つ目の質問である
What other things make people successful?（問題2）
に対しても簡単に答えています↓
there are other factors that can bring about success.
ここでは「他にも成功の要因がある」と述べる程度でOKです。（4パラグラフ目の結論で具体的に記述します。）
言い換え

Direct QuestionsエッセーのBody1
次にBody1ですが、まずは、アウトラインをおさらいしましょう。
（あなたは、富が成功にとっての一番の指標だと考えますか？）
なぜなら、高い収入があるビジネスマンの多くが自分の生活に満足できていないから。
構成
- 自分の意見
Being affluent and in possession of many things does not necessarily guarantee success even though generally considered successful. - 具体例
To illustrate, a business person earning a high income would be enviable in terms of financial status. However, some face struggles to have ample time with their family or even to sleep due to tight schedule, leading to unhappiness. - 結論
Therefore, wealth and material things are not the sole elements that lead people to success.
まずは、最初の1文で自分の意見を明確に表しましょう。
その後に具体例、そして、結論という流れでまとめています。
表現
- not necessarily~（必ずしも〜でない）
- considered ~（〜だと思われている）
- in terms of ~（〜に関して）
- face struggles to~（〜に苦労する）
Direct QuestionsエッセーのBody2
次にBody2です。こちらもアウトラインをおさらいしましょう。
（他にどんなものが人々を成功させますか？）
単にお金があるだけの人よりも、家族友人といい時間を過ごせている人の方が幸福を感じやすいから。
好きなことを追い求めるのは難しく、それを継続しているだけで少数派であり、成功と呼べる。
構成
- 他の成功の要因①
One way to measure one’s success is whether or not they are content about relationships with their family or friends. - 具体例
For example, those who can spend quality time with family and friends are more likely to feel happy about life than those who cannot. Therefore, having healthy relationships is also a factor that contributes to one’s success. - 他の成功の要因②
In addition, another contributing factor that makes a successful person is to be passionate about one’s job. - 要因②のサポーティングセンテンス
Although people succeeding in making a substantial amount of money are perceived as successful, few of them are doing what they want to do in their jobs.
表現
- be more likely to 〜（〜しやすい）
- be passionate about〜（〜が好きだ、〜に熱意がある）
- succeed in 〜（〜に成功する）

最後に結論です。このようにまとめました。
結論では、2つの問題の回答をイントロよりも具体的にまとめています（下線部）。

In addition, another contributing factor that makes a successful person is to be passionate about one’s job. Although people succeeding in making a substantial amount of money are perceived as successful, few of them are doing what they want to do in their jobs. In other words, success is determined by if they like what they do or not.
In conclusion, wealth and material belongings are important for success to some extent, however, relationships and having a stable, fulfilling job that one particularly likes also make people successful.
