I happened to meet this person who later became my friend in a yoga class, which I joined lately. It was quite a chance that this person who goes by the name, Keiko, sat beside me during the class. The reason why I like spending time with her is the positive vibes that I feel out of her. She is one of the people, rather, the first person in my life whom I have met having a very positive attitude towards the life. I always find her in jubilant mood even on the day she has the most serious issue at her work. One day she had this major argument with her boss but it was not until I insisted that she told me about this problem. She wasn’t crazy about the idea of sharing this with me because she didn’t want to ruin my day nor remind her of this incident. I must say, she is one of the people who have a really made a positive impression on my mind and has contributed a lot in the way I have started looking at life. After these classes, it has been quite a regular feature that I spend my time in her company, almost every weekend. Yet another reason why I like spending time with Keiko is the humorous character that she possesses.
Some people say that people help others in the community more than they did in the past. Do you agree or disagree?
I disagree with this statement. In the past, neighbours knew each other and looked after each other, because the sense of community was stronger. However, in recent years, people do not even know who lives next door. They are more independent and hesitate to build relationships. Perhaps the emergence of online services has played a huge role in this change, now that people connect with their friends and family members through social media even if they are physically far away from them.
How much time do children spend with their parents in Japan?
If children are school-aged, parents spend time with them during breakfast and dinner time, and perhaps after dinner, they may watch TV or read books together. If parents work full-time, they may spend less time with them because those children go to day care. I think this is not enough, because parents are the only ones who can pay special attention to children when they need such love.
