Part1(10題程度)4〜5分 一般的な簡単な質問。例:Do you work or study?…

Riku / Kohei

  • Business
  • Communication
  • Culture
  • Education
  • Environment
  • Family
  • Leisure
  • Hobby
  • Vacation
  • Language
  • Society
  • Transport
  • Technology

通年トピック(3つ) Home and accommodation(10回中10回で確認)/Hometown(10回中10回)/Work and studies(10回中9回)
入れ替わるトピックの上位 1位 Clothes and personal items/2位 Daily routines and time/3位 Nature and outdoor life/4位 Places and community(いずれも集計期間中の6回すべてで出題)/5位 Feelings, memories and behaviour(6回中5回)

There are a few reasons why…

Part1でよく聞かれる質問の例に「Do you work or are you a student?(働いているのか、学生なのか)」があります。

Riku / Kohei

Could you tell me about your work?
I work for an IT company that provides an online shopping platform. I’m a consultant, and my main job is to help clients increase their sales revenue on our platform by giving some advice to them.

I work for an IT company that provides… 職種(consultant)→仕事内容(my main job is to…)

What’s the best thing about your job?
The best thing about my job is that I can improve my communication skills. This is because I have various clients that I have to work with.

評価ポイント: 質問のthe best thingをそのまま主語にして即答し、This is because…

What’s the worst thing about your job?
One thing that I don’t like about my job is that I sometimes have to do overwork, which makes me feel unhappy. But other than that, I’m happy about my job.

One thing that I don’t like about my jobと自分の言葉に言い換えています。 最後にBut other than that…

Do you prefer working with others or alone?
I prefer working with others because I’ve gotten used to working with others, and I think I can achieve a lot more as a team than you would alone.

I prefer working with others. For example, I play tennis with my friends every weekend. a lot more as a team than you would aloneの比較級のように、短い答えの中でも文法の幅を見せられます。

Do you live in a house or an apartment?
I live in a small apartment in Tokyo. It’s convenient because it’s only a few minutes’ walk from the nearest station. I’ve lived there for about three years.

評価ポイント: 即答→It’s convenient because…の理由→I’ve lived there for about three years.

Do you enjoy cooking?
Yes, I do, especially on weekends. It helps me save money, and I can make food the way I like it. For example, I often make curry or simple rice bowls at home.

Yes, I do, especially on weekends.

How often do you make telephone calls?
I don’t make phone calls very often. I usually use messaging apps because they’re quicker and more convenient. I mainly call my parents or use the phone to make appointments when I need to speak to someone directly.

I don’t make phone calls very often.

Describe a friend who you really like to spend time with.

You should say:

  • when and how you met
  • how often you see this friend
  • what kind of personality your friend has

And say why you like to spend time with this particular friend.

I happened to meet this person who later became my friend in a yoga class, which I joined lately. It was quite a chance that this person who goes by the name, Keiko, sat beside me during the class. The reason why I like spending time with her is the positive vibes that I feel out of her. She is one of the people, rather, the first person in my life whom I have met having a very positive attitude towards life. I always find her in a jubilant mood even on the day she has the most serious issue at her work. One day she had this major argument with her boss but it was not until I insisted that she told me about this problem. She wasn’t crazy about the idea of sharing this with me because she didn’t want to ruin my day nor remind her of this incident. I must say, she is one of the people who have really made a positive impression on my mind and has contributed a lot in the way I have started looking at life. After these classes, it has been quite a regular feature that I spend my time in her company, almost every weekend. Yet another reason why I like spending time with Keiko is the humorous character that she possesses.

positive vibesやjubilant moodのような語彙、it was not until I insisted that…

Riku / Kohei

Some people say that people help others in the community more than they did in the past. Do you agree or disagree?
I disagree with this statement. The main reason is that people today live more independently, so they have fewer chances to look after their neighbours. For example, in many Japanese cities, people do not even know who lives next door. That said, online services have made it easier to support family and friends who live far away, so I would say the way people help each other has changed rather than increased.

I disagree with this statement.が意見、The main reason is…が理由、For example…が具体例、That said…

How much time do children spend with their parents in Japan?
I would say most school-aged children in Japan spend only a few hours a day with their parents, usually around breakfast and dinner. This is mainly because many parents work full-time, and some children stay at day care until the evening. For example, on weekdays, many families have just one meal together. To be honest, I don’t think this is enough, because parents are the ones who can give children the attention they need.

This is mainly because…→For example… a few hours a dayやjust one meal togetherのような具体的な数字・場面を入れると、抽象的な一般論で終わらずに済みます。

Riku / Kohei

Part3の例題と解答例(4文構成とadvantage/disadvantage型)

Why do people feel more stressed nowadays?
I think one main reason is that many people have difficulty switching off from work. This is because they can receive work messages on their phones even after office hours. For example, some office workers in Japan check messages while commuting home or on weekends. Overall, this can make it harder for them to relax.

I think one main reason is… switching off from work(仕事から頭を切り離す)のような句動詞を使い、Overallの一文でまとめて締める形は理由型の見本です。

What are the advantages and disadvantages of working from home?
There are both benefits and drawbacks to working from home. On the one hand, one major benefit is that people don’t have to commute. For example, they can save both time and money. On the other hand, one possible drawback is that they may feel isolated. This can be a problem because they have fewer chances to talk to their colleagues. So, I think it works well as long as people communicate regularly.

評価ポイント: advantage/disadvantage型の質問なので、On the one hand / On the other handで利点と欠点を対比し、最後にas long as…

Describe a piece of technology

You should say:

  • When you got it
  • What you got it for
  • How often you use it

And explain how you feel about it

Um so today, I will talk about my iPhone. I bought this a long time ago but I really like it. I use it… um I use it every day for many things. One thing I like um… my favorite… um I like it because it’s really easy using. I can touch screen to open apps or make a phone call for someone.

Another good thing I can take a lot of really good picture. I like to take picture when um…I like taking picture with my friend and family and I can do it with my phone. I like using it um… for listen music and watch video. I think it’s a very small computer um… because it’s useful and…um I can always have it in my pocket.

Sometimes, I can…um I have problems with my phone, when battery is zero or screen is broken. But, I think it’s really useful and good technology. I think my old mobile phone, my galapagos mobile phone, I can’t use it again in the future because iPhone is so useful.

語彙では、when battery is zero or screen is brokenはwhen battery dies or screen is crackedの方が自然です。

So, I want to talk about my iPhone. Well, I got it a few years ago and I really love it. I use it every day for lots of different things. One thing I like about it is that it’s really easy to use because I can just touch the screen to open an app or make a phone call.

And… another thing I like my iPhone is that I can take really good pictures. I like to take pictures of my friends and family and I can do that easily with my phone. I also use it to listen to music and watch videos. It’s like having a mini computer in my pocket.

Sometimes I have problems with my phone, for example, like when the battery dies or the screen cracks. But overall, I think it’s a really useful piece of technology. I can’t imagine I’m using my old phone.

残っているのは細かい文法ミスで、another thing I like my iPhoneはaboutが抜けており、another thing I like about my iPhoneが正しい形です。最後のI can’t imagine I’m using…も、I can’t imagine myself usingかI can’t imagine usingのどちらかにしたいところです。

Well, let me tell you about my iPhone. I got it a few years ago and it’s been my trusty companion ever since. I use it every day for all sorts of things. And um… the great thing about it is how user-friendly it is. With a simple touch of the screen, I can open an app or make a call. It’s like having a personal assistant right in my pocket!

One of my favorite things about my iPhone is the camera. It takes really high-quality pictures and makes capturing memories a breeze. Whether it’s a family gathering or a night out with friends, I can always count on my iPhone to capture the moment. I also love using it to listen to music and watch videos. It’s like having a mini entertainment center with me at all times.

But of course, like any piece of technology, my iPhone has its fair share of problems. Sometimes the battery dies at the most inconvenient times or the screen cracks, which can be frustrating. But despite the occasional hiccup, I think it’s an incredibly useful device. It’s hard to imagine going back to my old phone now that I’ve experienced all that my iPhone has to offer.

文法も、現在完了形(it’s been my trusty companion)・関係代名詞(all that my iPhone has to offer)・make+目的語+補語(makes capturing memories a breeze)・接続詞(whether / now that)と幅広く正確に使えています。
