Task2のタイプ
IELTSライティングTask2の問題のタイプは6つに分けることができます。
- Discussion
- Opinion
- Cause and Solution
- Direct Questions
- Advantage and Disadvantages
- Positive or Negative
タイプ毎に書き方がやや異なるので、まずはそれぞれのタイプの書き方をおさえましょう。今回はPositive or Negativeタイプの説明になるので、そのほかのタイプの書き方に関してはこちらを参照ください。
Positive or Negativeタイプとは
Positive or Negativeタイプとは「ある社会の変化や傾向がpositiveかnegativeか」を問う問題です。

このように問われる場合は、Positive or Negativeのタイプとなります。
Positive or Negativeエッセーの段落構成
Positive or Negativeのエッセーでは、段落は以下のような5段落構成となります。
Bodyは、3段落構成となりとなり、最初に反対意見について、後半の2つの段落で自分が支持する方の意見を書きます。
必ずしもこう書かなければならないわけではなく、あくまで推奨形です。初めての人は以下の書き方をまず覚えることをお勧めします。
- 導入（イントロ）
- Body1（反対意見の紹介 – 自分が支持しない立場）
- Body2（自分が支持する意見1）
- Body3（自分が支持する意見2）
- 結論（コンクルージョン）
Positive or Negativeのアウトライン
IELTSのライティングTask 2では、書き始める前に必ずアウトライン（構成）を作ることが大切です。
アウトラインとは、エッセーを書く前の「下書き・骨組み」のようなものです。
これを作らずにいきなり書き始めてしまうと、途中で論点がズレてしまうことがよくあります。
特にTask 2は40分という限られた時間で書き上げないといけないため、途中で
• 「この内容で本当に良いのかな…」
• 「話がズレてきた気がする…」
と感じても、構成を大きく修正する時間はありません。
そのため、書く前にしっかりアウトラインを考えておくことが、
ムダな書き直しを防ぎ、時間内に安定したエッセーを書くためのポイントになります。

positive面とnegative面をそれぞれ回答する必要があるので、できれば2つずつぐらいあげるのが理想です。
- 環境に優しい
- 雇用を生み出す
Negative面
- 供給が安定しない
- コストがかかる
このように、簡単に日本語でいいので、これから書く内容をまとめるようにしましょう。

With more attention being paid to climate change, some countries have started to use alternative energy instead of fossil fuels. While fossil fuels are still the main source of energy in the world, I believe that replacing them with cleaner energy is a positive change.
Admittedly, alternative energy sources still have limitations, as they do not always provide a stable or reliable supply of power. Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy such as solar or wind depends heavily on weather conditions, which can lead to inconsistent energy production. This lack of reliability is a serious concern, especially given the increasing global demand for energy in today’s fast-paced economic society. Moreover, renewable energy technologies are often more expensive to develop and implement, which makes them less accessible for developing countries.
However, one of the main advantages of alternative energy is its positive impact on the environment. Unlike fossil fuels, renewable sources such as wind and solar power do not produce harmful emissions when generating electricity. This helps reduce air pollution and slows down the effects of climate change. With continuous improvements in green technology, these clean energy sources are becoming more efficient and widely available, making them a more sustainable choice for the future.
Another reason why I believe this shift is beneficial is that renewable energy has the potential to generate new employment opportunities. While it is true that some workers in the fossil fuel sector may face job losses, the clean energy industry is expanding rapidly and creating a wide range of new roles. This growth not only supports the economy but also paves the way for a more sustainable future.
In conclusion, although fossil fuels have been helpful in the past, I believe that transitioning to alternative energy is a more positive development. This is mainly because it offers a cleaner solution to environmental problems and opens up new paths for economic and employment growth.
導入（イントロ）
まずはイントロです。
イントロはどのタイプでも書き方は共通になります。
2.自分の意見
この2つを記述する必要があります。
まずは問題文のパラフレーズです。
Fossil fuels are still the primary source of energy worldwide. However, in some countries, alternative energy sources are gradually replacing them.
パラフレーズ後
With more attention being paid to climate change, some countries have started to use alternative energy instead of fossil fuels.
ポイントはwithの使用です。この with + 名詞 + 分詞 の形は、「付帯状況」を表す構文です。
つまり、「〜という状況で」「〜しながら」「〜のままで」といった背景・状況を説明する副詞句として使われます。
With more attention being paid to climate change,
「気候変動に対してより多くの注目が向けられている中で／という状況で」
という意味で使うことができます。
少し上級者向けの構文ですが参考にしてみてください。問題文のパラフレーズができたら、質問の回答をまとめます。
こちらが回答例になります。
While 以下でfossil fuelsのことをフォローしつつ、自分の意見を述べています。
今回はpositiveであるという立場に立っています。
自分の意見の文章では、positiveだと思うのかnegativeだと思うのかを必ず書きましょう。
この文章では書いていませんがこの時に理由のまとめを入れてもOKです。
Body1
Body1では、自分とは反対の意見に関してまとめます。
今回は、positiveであるという立場に立っているため、negativeな点をまとめることになります。
先ほどアウトラインでまとめたnegativeな面をもう一度確認しましょう。
Negative面
- 供給が安定しない
- コストがかかる
の2つをあげていました。
Body1の段落は基本的にこのような構成で書くことを推奨します。

まず初めに、Admittedlyから初めています。Opinionタイプ、advantage and disadvantageタイプでも紹介していますが、positiveな面が大きいけど、negativeな面もあることを認めると譲歩する歳に使う表現になります。
Admittedly から始めることで、読み手はpositiveな面の方が大きいのだなとすぐに理解することができます。
Positive or Negativeタイプでも使えると良い表現になります。
次に1つ目のnegativeな面をあげています。（他の重要なことにお金を使えなくなる）
サポート文では、Unlike fossil fuelsで、「化石燃料とは違って〜」と対比をしています。
unlikeは対比をする際に使える前置詞なので覚えておくと便利です。
次に2つ目のサポート文では、This lack of reliability ~ とスタートしています。
（名）reliability「安定性」の意味なので、This lack of reliabilityとは、「このように供給が安定しないことが〜」と前の文章の内容を受けています。
このように前の文章の内容を、this + 名詞で書くことは、Coherence and Cohesionを上げる上テクニックです。
6.5以上を狙う人は積極的に使ってみましょう。
次に、2つ目のnegativeな面をあげています。
2つ目のnegativeな面は、「コストがかかる」だったのでそれをまとめています。
今回は特に2つ目のnegativeな面に対するサポート文を書いていませんが、もちろん書いてもOKです。
Body2
次にBody2です。Body2では、positiveな面をまとめます。
アウトラインで考えていたpositiveな面はこちらになります。
- 環境に優しい
- 雇用を生み出す
Body2では、1つ目に考えた「環境に優しい」についてまとめていきます。
これらをまとめていきます。
構成はこのようになります。
サポート1
サポート2
この段落は however から始まっています。
この 「however」は「〜にもかかわらず」という意味があるので、前の段落で negative（悪い点）を述べていたけれど、それでも positive（良い点）の方が大きいということを示しています。
続けて、「環境に優しい」という positiveな点を述べています。
その後に サポート文が3文続いています。
エッセイでは、1つの主張につき、サポート文は多くても3文までにするのがベストです。
それ以上になると、説明が長すぎて読みにくくなるからです。
1つ目のサポート文では先ほど使った、unlikeをまた使っています。
これは前にも出てきた表現ですが、対比したいときに使える便利な言い方です。
ただし、毎回使う必要はありません。
自然に対比できるときに使いましょう
do not produce harmful emissions 「有害な排出物を出さない」というのは環境の話では使える語彙になるので覚えておきましょう。
最後のサポート文では、with + 名詞の構文を使っています。
「〜に伴って」「〜という状況の中で」など、背景や同時進行する状況を示す構文になります。
サポート文では使いやすいので覚えておきましょう。
Body3
次にBody3です。
Body3では、2つ目のpositiveな面をまとめます。
アウトラインで考えていた2つ目のpositiveな面はこちらになります。
- 環境に優しい
- 雇用を生み出す
段落の構成はこのようになります。

サポート2
まず1文目で2つ目の理由を述べています。先ほど確認したように、2つ目のpositive面は「雇用を生み出す」でした。
generate new employment opportunitiesで「新たな雇用を生み出す」は使える表現なので覚えておきましょう。
次にサポート文を続けていきます。ここではwhileを使った対比をしています。
最後にもう一文サポート文を続けています。
コンクルージョン
最後にコンクルージョンです。
コンクルージョンの役割は、イントロと同様で、今までのまとめになります。
まず出だしは、in conclusionで初めてOKです。
while以下で自分とは反対の意見をまとめます。
今回は、positiveであるという立場をとっているので、negativeな面もあるということをまとめます。
最後に、I believe 以下で自分の意見をまとめます。positiveであるという立場をとっているため、Bodyで書いたその理由をまとめています。
